Star Award!

The past few days I've been emailing PALS back and forward about the two nurses who where so kind to me last Friday.  Today I got an email advising me to fill in nomination forms for Star Employee at the hospital and email them to to nominations and PALS will email the nurses surnames so they know who they are.

I'm so happy!!  They went above and beyond. I want them to know how grateful I am and others to know what amazing nurses they are.  Apparently closing day for the nominations is this Friday.  PALS are going to let me know if they get the award or not.  I have no idea when that will be.  I'll just have to wait on tender hooks until I hear!!

I really do hope they win.  They both deserve to.

Bye x

Best daughter in the world!

I really don't know what I'd of done without Teri the last few days.  She's cooked dinners, looked after me and made me laugh.  Without her life would of been very difficult. She's gone above and beyond what a daughter should do plus she did a sponsored gym yesterday (Shame only 3 people sponsored her :-( Please donate here- http://www.justgiving.com/SPONSORED-GYM )

Teri is nearly 16 and has turned into a lovely, kind, empathic young lady.  People say kids turn bad because they've had a hard life.  Well Teri suffers from PTSD, Depression and Fibromyalgia but she turned out ok!  She is a young carer and has been since she was 3 years old, but she turned out ok!  She suffered horrendous bullying, a lot of the time because I'm disabled, BUT SHE TURNED OUT OK!

If having a tough life makes you a violent, foul mouthed, inconsiderate brat then Teri should be running around the streets, smashing windows and mugging old ladies!  Instead she's studying like mad, worrying about getting good grades and knows exactly what she wants to do at Uni and has even looked into employment options!

I can't begin to put into words how proud of her I am.  It's weeks like this that show how well she's done and how well she can do.  I can't wait to see what she does in the next 16 years.

Thank you Teri xx

Next time you feel like shouting at a nurse remember....

I spent yesterday in Swindon's A&E department. There was 2 amazing nurses covering 15 beds (Emergency bed not routine!) Each bed was held there because the wards they should of been sent to was full.  These 2 nurses didn't complain when there was a line of paramedics and patients waiting to get in, they didn't complain when a 'patient' threw a tantrum because they weren't allowed out for a cigarette on health grounds, nor did they complain when they same patients friend kicked off saying 'she'll be ok, I'll be with her!'  They held it in when another patient kicked off complaining he'd been there for 30 minutes and the consultant hadn't been down.  They carried on and put up with more crap than I could of ever put up with.

A patient was waiting for an ambulance to take him back to a cottage hospital, in the end they had to put in in resus because it hadn't turned up and they needed the bed.

While rushing about one of them realised I was upset and crying.  She stopped and came over and gave me a big hug.  I told her she should carry on as she was busy, she said 'No, I've got time for you'.  Those words reduced me to tears (again!) She was so rushed off her feet and probably would go 12 hours without sitting down but she had time to comfort me when I was down.

It's hard not to bring politics into this.  Of course it's political!  Those poor nurses were probably on minimal wage and they get abuse every shift!  How can the government say they're saving the NHS when it's in this state??  Over the last 13 years I've spent a lot of time in A&E and I can honestly, with hand on heart say that it has NEVER been this bad! Each patient in yesterday was a complicated and possibly even high risk case, there should of been at least double the number of nurses there.  There should also be beds to move people to.  A&E is not a ward.  They should be administering emergency care then the patient move on.

I'm putting this on my facebook, my blog and Twitlonger and I hope that people read and share this.  If nothing else I want people to know that the nurses in A&E work hard and go above and beyond.  So next time you are in there and you feel like shouting because you meds are late, the consultant hasn't been or you want a cigarette stop and think about who you're shouting at.  The poor nurse you scream at is only doing their job and probably that of several other nurses, they probably have been on their feet for hours and will be for hours more, but they won't complain.  Why? Because they care and that's why they do the job they do.

I want to say a big thank you to Emma and Helen.  I truly don't know how I'd of coped with out the 2 best nurses in the NHS yesterday.  Thank you xx

This is why I love her!

Molly suddenly got better yesterday.  She was bouncing about and back to her normal self.  It was lovely to see and a big relief.

Then last night I was very ill.  I'd been struggling for a few days, determined to keep going.  Then last night it hit me with a vengeance.  I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital I was so ill.  Molly sensed I was ill and curled up on me being careful not to hurt me.  Her just being there helped me and made me feel loved.  I don't know how I coped without her.

I'm still feeling rough now but the pain has eased a little.  I'm having an early night with Mol then I'll see how I am tomorrow morning.  One thing I know is if I am awake ill tonight I won't be alone.  Mol will be there for me.

Bye x
